Bought
on 19 June 2006 from
Broadbridge Heath Peugeot near Horsham for £4995 (+£170 road tax and
+£72 roof bars -£650 p/e for the cinq).
The model I have bought, is the 5 door Peugeot 206 'Roland Garros'
limited edition, with fixed panoramic glass roof, metallic 'Tie-break'
Green paint, alloy wheels, radio/cassette head-unit with 6 CD
auto-changer, leather trim seats and air conditioning. with climate
control.
The
206 is quite a big jump up in comfort, quality and performance
compared to the cinq.
Its engine is 1587
cc, 110 bhp (compared to 899 cc and
39 bhp in the cinq),
allowing it to actually pull up the steep south downs in the area!
The leather trim sporty front seats make sitting in the front very comfy
whilst having 5 doors and being longer gives easier access to the rear seats, more leg room
and a more reasonably sized boot.
The
main feature of the Roland Garros model, is its fixed
panoramic glass roof. However, it can only really be appreciated by
passengers in the rear seats, although there is the bonus of extra light
coming into the main cabin. Despite having the glass roof, it does not
stop you using roof bars, as it has the standard screw fixing holes for
roof bars as all 206 models... it may be quite interesting looking up
through the roof whilst carrying the bikes on the roof!
One
of the more disappointing features of the car, was the quality of the stereo,
since reading the model had 6 speakers (2 rear, 2 front, 2 tweeters) I
had expected it to sound good and I would have liked to have MP3 CD
support. However, I do not want to replace the head unit, due to it
looking like a built in unit, with its display integrated into the clock
display and the remote control steering wheel stalk. However, a fairly
cheap option which I have taken, is to replace the cheap factory fit
speakers from the front doors with some £40 alpine speakers.
Fortunately, it was not too hard to craft an adaptor from spade
connectors to use the existing plug (rather than cutting wires and using
a junction box), allowing the option of re-fitting the original speakers
when I come to sell it. About the only other option I have now, is the
possibility of fitting a sub and amp in the boot,
taking a feed from the front speakers as I expect there will not be any pre-outs on this
standard head unit.
